Jean Skirt

We love these skirts!  They are fun to make and look great.  With the endless number of different materials and all of the different colors and washes of jeans these skirts are one of a kind.

Materials needed
1 Pair Jean Pants
2 Yards of Material
Sewing Machine
Thread

I started by laying the jeans flat on my cutting mat.  I then cut off the jeans under the zipper, but above the middle of the crotch where the 4 seams come together.

Here they are cut.  Make sure to stretch out the bottoms of the pants.  These pants measured 22 inches.  To find the measurement of the material you double the material and add at least 5 inches.  I cut the material for this skirt at 49 inches.

Sew your material right sides together so that you have a tube.  Set your stitch length for the longest stitch you can.  Next sew around the skirt 1/4 inch from the edge.  Then sew 1/4 inch from the first set of stitches.

Gather the material to match the width of the jeans.  Pin and sew together.

This is what the skirt will look like right side out.

I then hemmed the skirt.  How you hem it is up to you and what you like.

Add a belt of made of matching material.

Now you have a beautiful skirt that is rugged as well.

Jean Gift Bags

We started making these so that we could have gift bags for our scarfs this Christmas.  I had so much fun with them that I think I will make them year round.  This is a great way to use up kids jeans that have rips and stains.

The first thing I did was cut the bottom of the pants off right below the grass stains.  You could also cut just below a rip in the knee.

Next I sewed a bottom seam about 1/4 inch from where I cut.  Then sew another seam a 1/4 inch from that one.  This way you have a double seam.

Next I sewed box style corners so that the bag would be able to stand up right.  I sewed an inch from the point of the bag and made a straight seam the entire length.  I sewed another seam 1/4 inch from the first to reinforce the stitching.  So this on both sides.

Next I cut off the extra corners.

Here are the bags turned right side out,  I found them pain and wanted to dress them up a bit.

I got out a craft ink pad.  I used a craft ink pad so that the ink would show up better.  If you have any questions find your local Stampin Up demonstrator.  They will be able to get you what you need.  I randomly stamped snowflakes on this bag to give it a finished look.

This is the other bag.  Stamped and ready to be used this winter.

Perfect Pot Roast

This is one of my favorite ways to prepare pot roast.  I find it has many layers of flavor, and can make even the most plain pot roast amazing.  I cook it in the Crock Pot which keeps it nice and moist.

Perfect Pot Roast

2-3 lb Pot Roast
1 pkg Onion Dip Mix
1/8 tsp Ground Ginger
1/4 tsp Garlic
1 cup water

Place pot roast in Crock Pot.
Sprinkle dip mix, ginger and garlic over the meat.
Add water to bottom of Crock Pot.
Cook on Low for 8 hrs or High for 4.

There you have it!  A super easy weeknight Main Dish.

Grandma's Peach Jelly

This is one of those Great Depression era recipes.  I personally love it!  I have mixed several different methods to make it mine, so I guess it isn't all Grandma's recipe.  Ok I'll quit talking and get you that recipe now.

Grandma's Peach Jelly

Pits and Peels from Peaches
Water
Pectin
Sugar
Lemon Juice

I like to use quart jars, as I peel peaches for canning I put all of the pits and peels in to the quart jar.  It should come to about 2 cups of peels and pits.  Fill the jar to about 1" from the top.  Soak the Pits and Peels in water overnight.

The next day, empty the jar in to a large stock pot.  For ever quart of peels/pits I add one quart of water.  Bring it to a boil.  I then turn off the heat and let the mixture sit for about 30 minutes.  Next I strain the juice so that it is clear.

Use 4 cups of the juice, you may have more so make sure you measure.  Add the pectin and lemon juice and bring to a boil.  Add 5 1/2 cups of sugar.  Bring to a rolling boil and boil for 1 minute.  Ladle into pint or half pint canning jars.  Can using a water bath canner for 25 minutes at 6100ft.  You can refer to the pectin's instructions for directions, and canning times for your altitude.

This wonderful recipe can be used for more then just peaches.  Apples, grapes, blackberries, just about anything will work.               Happy Canning ♥

Weeknight Burrito Casserole

This is a recipe that Loy and I both love.  We do it differnet to suit the needs of our families, but never the less this reicpe is one that both of us run to.  I don't use the enchilada sauce at all.  Loy uses both the regular red and the green enchilada sauce.  One at a time of course.

Burrito Casserole
10-12 fresh or frozen burritos
1 lg can of Enchilada Sauce
Grated Cheese
Sour Cream
Guacamole

1. Preheat the oven to 350
2. Layer the buttitos first in eather a 9x9 or 9x13 pan.  A 9x9 will only fit about 6 burritos.
3. Pour the enchlida sauce over the burritos.
4. Bake for about 45-60 minutes.  I know that is a wide range for cooking time, but if you use frozen burritos it will take longer to cook.  Make sure the buttitos are hot in the middle.
5. Sprinkle or glob on cheese.  I like my burritos covered in cheese, so I glob it on.
6. Bake for 5 minutes longer or in till cheese is melted.

Serve with sour cream and guacamole.  Enjoy~ Elizabeth
